I occasionally use discarded straps from bicycle toe clips. Right now the small ratchet straps are all dumped into a DeWalt bag like a big pile of spaghetti.

Good tips, I've used the vice table idea for years. I use a non slip drawer liner material or clamps to hold the workpiece in place.
