But first to check the price of hay, feed, supplements, and first aid supplies. And be prepared for daily grooming, hoof picking, and manure cleanup and disposal. (brushes, combs, shampoo, detangler, hoof picks…)
And ferrier and veterinarian services,
annual shots,
deworming,
hay delivery and storage,
cart/buggy tack,
cart/buggy maintenance,
training/trainer,
shelter,
pasture land,
fencing,
fence charger,
drinking watering system,
fly spray,
fly masks,
companion(s) since horses are herd animals.
Costs of most of these things have sky-rocketed.
And, of course, the initial cost of a bullet-proof cart horse plus delivery. An amish man told me the best horses are retired cart racing horses. Risky to trust the lives of your family to a horse that might spook and bolt.
