I clamp the front of the blade in the vise and take the handle off. Can't remember the last time i removed the blade, it lives on my bench and I sharpen it freehand with handle on
Brian :)
I believe you'll find many uses for it. just be careful not to pinch your fingers when you put the blade back in the holder. That magnet is Powerful!

I was working on this 58" walnut table top until another "urgent" project popped up. As i was working on each joint i'd rub chalk along the edges, stand them up as you are, and rub the 2 pieces left...
It's hard to tell but are the boards surfaced both sides to the same thickness
I've been using a Veritas flush trim plane, the inexpensive one, for 10-15 years. It's one tool that never leaves my bench.
I've done the same a couple times and even with a chisel. An old 2" marples blue handle chisel i've had for 20+ years has bitten me many times
My shop, during the summer, stays around 60% and 78 degrees and most planes are stored on a plywood shelf with no finish. In use I use a Oil Rag In A Can so the planes get a regular oiling. I keep a...
I've found a few references of Disston making saws for metal, not hacksaw blades rather panel saws, but nothing that said anything about blade thickness or material they were designed to be for. This...
Just received another Disston Reagan Patent back saw, 12" 12pt rip. The plate measures .088 thick at the tooth line and .045 at the spine, almost 4X thicker than any other saw i own. It's mostly...
I've got this D8 from 1897-1917, 24" 11ppi crosscut502717

I completely agree that is a product doesn’t meet stated specifications it should be replaced at no cost to the buyer as fast as possible. The problem here is the stated specifications.

My thumbs are also unhappy with a pushing card scraper but it's not as bad when pulling it
Also, it has a 9" rule

In my opinion, each sharpening media has it's own learning curve so jumping form one to another may slow your overall progress so i suggest you work with what you have for now. I've tried most every...
I've had this in the To Be Restored bin for awhile now. Warranted Superior emblem with Dec 27 1887 pat date and a very faint etch. I remember my older brothers friend's father had a childs...
Cluttered as usual.....
Small 3x8 DMT stones from from 120 through 8000, 8x8 EzeLap plates from 150 to 1200, 2 Norton India stones in steel cases next to hard and soft Arkansas stones. 1 very used...
About sawing, Dad often told me...
Somebody spent a lot of time getting all those teeth sharp, you should try and use them all
As a young pre-teen I had a tendency to use short fast strokes
I'm sorry, that's the blade from the skewed block plane, not the rabbet plane. I apologize for creating more confusion. :o
Mine reads 15 degrees on both the honing guide and dial protractor. I'd suggest freehand honing but avoid changing the blade angle. Perhaps ask LN if they have any suggestions.461202461203
I've been using this Craftsman for ~30 years. No idea where it came from. It's also my go-to can opener :)
