Michael - if you can, please post some photos of your buddies Avid with the reinforcements installed.
Thanks,
David
After doing some test aluminum machining on my Avid CNC table, and seeing what a huge mess it can make with coolant and all, I decided that it is probably not a great idea to machine metal on the...
Nice videos Stan! What software and scanner are you using, where did you buy them, and what is the cost?
Thanks,
David
Stan - I assume that 4.5 amps is with no load. What kind of current are you drawing under full load? Just curious.
David
Stan - that's a good idea using the roll feed printer. I had never considered that. Thanks!!
David
Stan - I notice that you use many large paper drawings to do your trace demonstrations. Where are you sourcing your large paper drawings?
Thanks,
David
Tony - Yes they still offer the "regular" non-Pro kits. They used to be at the top of the main page right under the Pro series router kits. But I see they have now hidden them under the category...
Tony - thanks for your report on your Avid setup. Lots of great information there! Also, I wasn't aware that Avid was still offering the non "Pro" model, but very good to know for future reference.

Nice work Stan!! How thick is the finished item?
David
Stan - you may find this useful for chip load calculations.

Stan - it's mostly based on chip load. I think there are other posts here talking about that in detail.

Yes - push the start button on the vfd, or turn the spindle from your software control program (on-screen). What control software are you using?

Stan Kern is looking for help getting his new spindle up and running. In addition to installing an external potentiometer for speed control, what other parameters does he need to set. I have attached...
I use Google Photo for hosting images. It's free up to 15 GB of storage. I've got tons of photos stored there and still have used only 1.4 GB.
David
Band saw was my first though as well.

I don't know how much weight that gantry could support as far as converting to a spindle. I suppose as long as you could keep the spindle weight down to something comparable to that Makita router...
Charles - if you are asking about purchasing a used cnc machine from someone here, then I would suggest you might do well to check the Classified section of the forum.
David
Avid does make a 2x2 bench top cnc router, but pretty expensive and most likely not an entry level machine for someone just starting out. I would take Jim's recommendations for the two he mentioned...
I would suggest you take a look at the Vectric software before proceeding to purchase a table. You need to make sure you are comfortable with the cad/cam software and that you understand how to use...
I use a small valve like the ones used on evap cooler water lines, then just leave it cracked open a slight amount with a pan underneath. It is a very small leak, but when it gets humid any moisture...

Dan - there was a recent discussion about Avid vs. Shopbot here.
https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?304619-Shop-Bot-CNC
In particular, take a look at Gary's comment.
"AVID's linear...
Charles - what size projects to you plan to engrave? Are you wanting to engrave letters and outlines, or full 3D projects? Do you have experience using Vectric VCarve Pro or Aspire? The more...
Stan - I assume you are looking at something like this.
