    Cherry tool chest

The plans for this tool chest are from Shopnotes #49 Vol 9. Originally built from maple, I had a lot of cherry, so I used that. The original plans were for the tool chest only, but I added the base drawer for the extra storage. I made a few adjustments in the design to suit my own tastes.

Great job on the tool chest... Thanks for letting us know where you got the plans from. Now that will have to go on my to do list. (after the morris chairs are done) Nice touch adding the base drawer.

How did you do the drawers? And what was your finishing schedual?

Thanks for the post and welcome to the Creek!

    Thanks Steve and Gary.
It was something I have wanted to build since retiring in 2004. After I got a new TS to replace an old craftsman, and a Dewalt planer, I felt I was ready to tackle it.

I used a locking rabbet joint for the drawers. It's an easy joint to make and very strong. Much of the construction is tongue and groove. The finish is tung oil, 2 coats.

I originally posted the construction of the chest on another forum, but wanted to share it here as well. I'm very proud of the tool chest, and know that it will be passed down through the generations.

As I said in my second message, I used 2 coats of tung oil for the finish. A coat of furniture wax finished it off.
