Thread: Atoma 400 versus DMT

  1. Not too long ago I discovered a diamond plate that's better than DMT or the regular Atoma. The brand name on the label is Ken-syou but I'm fairly sure Tsuboman made it because the diamonds are arranged in exactly the same manner as the Atoma plates. It's quite a bit faster and the channels make sure the stone material is easily washed away. This plate is made specifically to flatten stones and it's available in 400 and 600 grit.

I'm not finding anything when I search. Any hints on where it can be purchased?

I have a love/hate relationship with my Atoma plate and that looks like it takes all the hate out of the job, can you put up a link where I can buy one? An advantage of the Atoma is the diamond plate can be renewed as it is held on with double sided tape. Stu did a video of how this is done some years ago

I don't know if I can post a link. But you could go to the watermarked site in the picture, in the left margin is a link for artificial stones ( 人造砥石 ), if you scroll down through the stones until you see the flashing NEW! sign.

The way the Atoma and similar solid surface plates stick during flattening drives me mad.

    Chris,
Can you expound further on what you mean with the Atoma plates sticking during flattening?

    Thanks.

The water sort of sucks the plate and stone together, it is not unique to Atoma, all solid surface plates do it which is why some are segmented.
