    intarsia wood

I was asked to make an Intarsia wood project of one of my images but it is to be displayed outdoors. I know cedar is a good wood to use but they loved the look of walnut and cherry wood. I need contrasting woods. Any ideas? I also have to worry about the project weathering from the elements and how it will look over time. I am not painting it but will seal it. Need suggestions for that as well.
    Thanks

Walnut is going to bleach out very quickly in direct sunlight. White oak is good, osage will go very dark brown quickly in direct sunlight and will last forever.

  3. For an outdoor Intarsia wood project, use durable woods like cedar for its decay resistance and pair it with walnut and cherry for visual contrast. Consider additional options like teak, ipe, and redwood for their outdoor resilience and contrasting hues. To protect the project, apply multiple coats of a high-quality marine varnish, spar urethane, or exterior polyurethane, ensuring each coat is thoroughly dry before sanding and reapplying. Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and reapplication of sealant, will help preserve the project against weathering.
