I like longer reference edges.
Those are the ones that have been sharpened the least, and are close to their original length. The first is from the set that I purchased around 1980- it's probably been sharpened less than a dozen times- mostly paring, very little pounding.. The other from a set that I guess is from the estate of an amateur in Japan- moderate use. The set has refined, slender profiles.
The third one is new (to me). It had had damage ground off the cutting edge, and took some work to get it back to working condition.
