I'm looking to do an inlay and the Shaper seems the ticket. But alas I'm trying to put off that purchase...
Anyone in Philly with a Shaper want to make a few bucks helping me out?

James,
have you looked at Maslow CNC? It’s a full 4’x8’ CNC without the footprint. It’s also cheaper than a gantry type CNC.

the link above is for a new and improved system.
The current model uses two chains connected to the upper right and left corners. The router is suspended on an inclined work surface. Routing up is done by reeling the chains. Routing down is done by reeling the chains out and letting gravity do its thing.
The new model uses chains to all4 corners. The neat thing is that you don’t have to have a dedicated 4x8 table. You mount the system on some sort of flat surface and off you go.

Because the project that the OP wants to embellish is already partially assembled (see thread in the CNC area), a flat bed CNC or even that Maslow thang are not going to do what needs to get done. Shaper Origin is unique in that it can work on small surfaces like a chair seat (with care in setup)

The most expensive tool is the one you buy "cheaply" and often...
