I would suggest trimming back the ends beyond the checks and sealing them to limit further degrade.

I do not own a paper guide published by the Canadian Wood Council. You might start poking around here:

In the last 90 minutes I pulled the last piece of rough opening out from a closet doorway at my house and found this grade mark pictured.
Pacific Lumber Industry Board. PLIB. https://www.plib.org/lumber-grading-...rade-stamping/
The grade stamp pictured earlier in this thread does not spell out the species or the grade level of the pictured timbers that I can see. I have not yet found "RFP" or "TAC" on the PLIB website, but I need to get back to work on my closet.
Best wishes.

Thanks everyone, sounds like a plan! I’ll plan to re-saw once or twice, expose to VG and laminate. Chop off the ends that are checking and seal.
Will be a couple weeks before I have a chance to work on it but I’ll post some photos. Thanks again!
Scott - thanks for looking up the stamp. I haven’t found RFP or TAC referenced anywhere either, but I’m 99% sure they are DF and should do the trick for my needs here!

I agree I would resaw at least once. Resawing would also give you the chance to have a dovetailed end cap that should help with any additional splitting if you can't afford to crosscut it that far in.
