    Table slides/extensions

Building an kitchen table. Want to be able to add 2 12'' leafs. Table will be 48'' x 48'' when closed. Top will be 1 1/2 thick white oak on a single pedestal. Do you guys recommend any company that sell the slides?? Do you prefer the wood slides or mechanical one's?? Thanks Mike

I’ve used metal ones numerous times and never had a problem. I use Watertown slides and get them from Moin Hardware in NY.

Always use the word "impossible" with extreme caution

Avoid having to send stuff back, and having to wait for more stuff. “ be sure you are right ,then go ahead”. Sounds like a lot of weight for a
pedestal table, dont let anyone put there elbows on it !

    Try Osborne Wood Products.

I use metal slides only. Wood wears, and gets sticky.
Lee Valley sells good slides from Poetker, I think.
Often table slides don’t fit the table I’m making, so I use drawer slides.

Under a table top which is 48”x72”, your pedestal should be longer in the 72” direction, to avoid tipping over when somebody leans hard on the edge.

I built a non-standard butterfly leaf extension dining table commission recently and used very nice extruded aluminum slides directly from Poettker. They have so many options and can make custom lengths if you call them and ask. Good customer / tech support as well that’s an experienced person available by phone.
    Still waters run deep.
