For 3hp and under it is probably cheaper to buy a VFd then it is to buy the switchgear and disconnects required by code. A VfD qualifies as a disconenct per NEC.

A VFD is not a disconnect! A disconnect must disconnect all sources of power and must be able to be locked to qualify as one.

Thanks for the heads up. I wondered if that was really true.
Turns out they make a VFD mounted in one box along with the dissconect so it looks to be one thing.

I have several AB set up like that. Pulled them off conveyor belt systems. No idea what I am going to do with them, they are mostly small ones.
