Got all 7 planks planed down, last night. Under the weather all day, today....will see how Monday goes....need to make the lid, next. Following along with Sellers' videos...waiting on the drawer build video....
3 blanks to choose from..
#1..
Paul Sellers plans, lid choice 1.JPG
Knots are causing waves along the length...meh..
#2...
Paul Sellers plans, lid choice 2.JPG
All quarter sawn....no knots...not sure IF I can keep the brown edge...might be good enough for the lid..
Paul Sellers plans, lid choice 3.JPG
Thinking more of matching this one with #1 for a table top? Looking like #2 will be it....maybe?
Well..chose #2...hauled it down to the shop...laid things out with a bit extra...
Paul Sellers plans, lid blank, D8.JPG
Disston D-8, 26" long, 11 ppi, late 1940s....ends weren't bad, the edges were a bit..off..
Paul Sellers plans, NOT square.JPG
Didn't take all that long, before..
Paul Sellers plans, now square.JPG
Edges were then rounded over, then Sellers called for a rebate all the way around the underside of the lid..
Paul Sellers plans,Hinge rebates.JPG
Then one in back, is to clear the barrel of the hinges...the other 3 edges are just to match the back one...
Got the drawer parts sized, dovetailed, and glued up..
Paul Sellers plans, drawer glue up.JPG
Twas a busy day...I think I'll let the drawer sit there a day...while I rest up...stay tuned
Let's see....got the front of the box fixed up..
Paul Sellers plans, front fixed.JPG
Got the hinges installed ( somehow, was one of those days)
Paul Sellers plans, hinges installed.JPG
Drawer came out of the clamps....and the fitting, and fighting began....along with the Marine DI level cussing
First off, top of the drawer needed a shim added...and tapered to fit...involved glue and clamps...
Paul Sellers plans, add a shim 1.JPG
Glue was having a rough time of it....then I planed it to fit the opening...then added brass nails to keep the shim in place...was trying to level the bottom edges of the drawer..."CRACK"
Paul Sellers plans, this break.JPG
So..while waiting on this glue to dry, so I can sand it down....I went ahead and added a handle...
Paul Sellers plans, handle installed.JPG
Will help to pull the drawer, in and out, during the fitting
So, how bad of a day was it? Out of nowhere, an old pen happened to roll across the bench, and into my way....pen was soon on it's way, to parts unseen, by air....
Have to go see the Kidney Doctor this afternoon, about a stone problem...maybe later this evening, the glue will be dry?
Stay tuned..
Just a couple shots, to see if anyone is awake, out there..
Paul Sellers plans, all opened up.JPG
Drawer has a piston fit, too.
.Paul Sellers plans, PIP, not stained.JPG
Went to stain the project...can was empty..had to go out and buy a new can...
About time for a PIP?
Stay tuned..
Ok..give me a bit, be back with a few photos from the stain application today....
Ok..time for a PIP? Stain has been wiped down, and being allowed to dry fully..
Paul Sellers plans PIP, feet.JPG
Box has "iron feet" (aka..Iron Foot?)
Paul Sellers plans PIP, back.JPG
A look at the back of this thing ( only 12-1/2 in length, overall)
Paul Sellers plans PIP, lid opened.jpg
I relocated the hinges a bit..now they can hold the lid open..
Paul Sellers plans PIP, drawer closed.JPG
A look at the drawer front. Added a strip to fill in the "extra groove" ca glued to the drawer...as a "guide"
Paul Sellers plans PIP, drawer opened.JPG
Can barely see it,...that's the idea..
Paul Sellers plans PIP, end details.JPG
End details..tried to match the grain directions a bit
Once the stain has fully dried, will see about a decent top coat....
Stay tuned
That looks like a fun project and a good skills tuneup for me. Where did you find the plans? I did a web search and came up empty.
Sharp solves all manner of problems.
Plans were downloaded from Paul Sellers Masterclass. He is doing a free video project called a "Desktop Organizer".

Well, waiting on Lunch to settle through the systems.....then I'll meander down to the shop, and give this box a coat of either shellac, or varnish....
May name this box after the Lord of the Iron Hills...Dain II, aka Iron Foot....
Will post when things are dry, again...stay tuned...
And, here we go..
