Was trying to use one of my Jack planes the other day....after about 2-3 swipes, it just stopped cutting....then, while reaching over to get another jack plane out...#1 decided it wanted to slide off the bench, and onto the floor....33" away....landed right on the.....rear handle. Snapped it into 3....
Plopped it back onto the bench. Had a spare already to go..

Both are Millers Falls No. 14s....broken one is a Type 3, the other is a Type 2. Got to looking....trying to find out why the plane quit..

Hmmm, could be?

Only thing broken was the rear handle...I can now use it's parts, though. At least until a type 3 rear handle shows up. Will have to rehab the chipbreaker, to match the iron.
I had been using the type 2, decided to try the #3 out....oh well...Plane was a $0.50 yard sale find, anyway.
