    Tempering hand made blades

I was watching a You Tube video about knife making, and the person heated his blade to red hot, quenched it in water, waited for it to cool, and stuck it in a toaster oven at 360 deg. to temper it. Will this really work? If so, it is a brilliant solution to an expensive problem!

Search in the Neanderthal Haven; there's been plenty of posts about this there, and the guys there will be happy to help you. George Wilson in particular, has shared copious amounts of knowledge on his experience with this.

Yes, there is a lot of information in the Neanderthal forum.

Every grade of steel requires different heat treating. What works for one may not work for another and result in all kinds of problems including steel not hard enough or steel being brittle and breaking.

  4. It's almost that simple. More here: http://www.hocktools.com/diyht.htm
