Great looking piece!
Nathan, that is one MONSTER of a tree! AND one BEAUTY of a bowl. Thanks for sharing it.
I drink, therefore I am.
Great bowl and it sure looks like there might be a few more there!
Great looking bowl Nate. Looks like maybe a couple of more for sure.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow.
To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone and a funnybone.
A beautiful bowl with a lot of great figure. Nice photos too.
I was sad because I had no shoes,
Then I saw a man who had no feet

Thanks everyone!! I can't believe this post has over 450 views. Roger, I'll give ya a call the next time! I feel grateful for being able to help my friend with this tree; I didn't know what to expect when he called asking me to bring my 42" bar to help him. The finish is a mix of Minwax Antique Oil and Behlen's Salad bowl finish, as I wanted to use up the last of an old can of the Behlen's. I like the Minwax Antique oil look better, as I think it penetrates the wood better due to its lower viscosity. Also, the Behlen's goes bad quickly after being opened, BUT, it is easier to apply, goes a bit farther, and doesn't yellow clear maples as badly as BLO does. As far as the bowl, I also wanted to point out that I usually don't fill the beetle larvae holes, but I did on this one, as sometimes, occasionally, people are turned off by them, and I didn't want to narrow my potential customer base. There have been a bunch so far that I haven't posted, and will be a bunch more bowls from this tree. I'm working on sanding out an 18" bark edged one that is spectacular! Don't worry, as soon as its done, I'll post it.
