    Opinion of Dastra tools

I'll be taking a woodcarving course in June and I need to pick up a few gouges. In searching this forum I get the general impression that Dastra tools are highly regarded. Would that be a correct impression? Opinions?

I'm thinking of ordering from Nora Hall's site. Is there a better source?

    Larry,

Unfortunately, I can't speak to them. Most of my carving tools are Pfeil Swiss Made. But I also know that woodcarver Mary May also sells Dastra woodcarving tools and similarly considers them top notch.

    Jim

Thanks Jim. What info I have to go on seems positive. I think I'll order a couple.

Larry, if you would like Pfeil gouges @ a good price, let me know... I've got a fairly large inventory, also Henry Taylor gouges, that I'm in the process of selling... Also have a large number of Iyoroi chisels, if you need any...

    Best Regards,

I get my Dastra tools from either Ron Diefenbacher http://www.diefenbacher.com/Dastra.htm
    or Mary May http://www.marymaycarving.com/for%20sale.htm

Both give excellent service and I highly recommend both of them. I find that the Dastra tools hold their edge longer then the Pfeil tools.
