    QS White Oak/Mahogany Table

Here is the other table I was working on. The top is made from a single board of QS Wht Oak and a few 1/8" strips of Mahogany. It is about 21 1/4" x 40", 13/16" thick. The base is the same one on the other table I make. All Mahogany, I took off a few inches on the legs to make the table 20" tall. Everything got clearcoated with MLC Krystal, a conversion varnish. I wasn't sure how they were going to look together, but I think they matched well. Here's a few shots:

Here is a pic of the top, in good lighting the flecks and rays jump out.

Nope, just sanded with 220 and clearcoated. No special treatments what-so-ever. I felt like being lazy.

Interesting application of the mahogany strips... turned out fine and a job well done...

And if I decided to experiment with doing something similar in the future.. you took the experiement out of the equation..

    Sarge..

I put the pin stripes in there to pull the base into the top. So that they had some conformity. Something like taking a small detail out of a bed sheet and making the wall that color. I was happy that the colors of the base and top complemented each other. I was worried they might not work well together.

Some nice "action" there in that top, Leo. Very nice table.

At first I thought you had ruined a perfectly fine top with the strips, but after finishing it's beautiful. The two woods work together perfectly ... I will remember this combo.

I had my own misgivings about mixing the two woods. But I had already built the base and put the Mahogany pinstripes to bring them together. Until I put the top on the base I was worried. After I put it on I was no longer worried.

Here is the close up of the pinstripe.
