    Thick door

I applied 1x material to an insulated steel door to my shop to make it look like a dutch door. Looks fine but now its 2 1/2 inches thick. I see online that they sell a 'thick door kit'. No pictures or list of parts but I get the impression it may only be longer screws. Anyone know if this is so or if it contains other parts? If it's just screws, I'll buy some from the hardware store. Don't really care if they match the knobs finish.
    Thanks, Mike

Might need new jambs and stop.

The usual lock-sets don't handle doors that thick. Exterior door lock sets expect doors to be about 1 5/8" thick. You can get lock sets which will handle thick doors, but you have to dig.

Thanks for the input. There is about 3/8 inch clearance between the applied material and the door edges. Just enough for the applied material to clear the insulated stop so the door closes just as it normally would.

Not looking for a special thick door lock set but a cheap way to be able to use a standard 'cheap' lock set. I may just buy an inexpensive standard lock set and see if I can adapt it myself.

You could just drill a larger hole in the 1x and countersink the lock set into it. May look funny, but it would be cheap.

Good idea Dave, thanks. Might give that a try if I can't adapt somehow.
Here is a picture of the freshly painted door. The swinging 'barn' door to the right and another beside it are fake also. Garage was open on the end facing the house (like the one to the left) and needed to be enclosed. The siding is old and I couldn't match it so figured the fake doors would look better than mismatched siding. I'm going to attach some strap hinges to the barn doors (fake wooden ones of course)
