Just out of curiosity for us very poor folks..do you think this could be done without all the fancy incra stuff?

I'd love to have it, but it's just not in the budget in the forseeable future.

Very cool stuff Bill - thanks for sharing. The real value of this and other forums is craftsman like yourself pulling the cover off the "how" of what you do so that less experineced guys like me can get a handle on it. Class act all the way!

Thanks guys. As far as doing it w/o an Incra fence, I suppose you could, as long as your fence is accurate. As far as the drilling of the pivot goes, I don't think it could be done accurately. The Hinge crafter prevents blow out and aligns the center point of every hole perfectly.

Bill, great tutorial. That turns out fantastic hinges! But it's what you do with them that makes all the difference - and you do great work. Thanks for the post.

Thanks Jason. BTW I just got an e-mail from Incra. The hinge crafter is on sale for 65 bucks. That's 10 bucks off. This is strictly a coincidence that this thread happened at the same time as the sale. I guess that's a good thing though.

    Bill,Great post,
I am in the process of getting to know my Hinge crafter, the trouble I'm having is the knuckles splitting when drilling the hinge pin holes, any thoughts as to why?
    Everyting else is going smoothly.
    Thanks

Your bit is loading up with wood, move your bit in and out every couple seconds to clear the debris out. That should fix your issue. Also, what kind of wood are you using to make your hinge? Some are better than others.

Some of you asked how I did the hinges on the latest Humidor. Here's the secret.
