I have a benchtop tablesaw that can only accept a 1/2" dado set. What is the best way to cut 3/4" rabbets?

Two passes any way you look at it....

David,
Don't you mean 1 and a half passes?
straight edge.
Stanley #78. I use a Millers Falls #85 but they are pretty much the same thing.
Sorry, if I didn't do it someone else would. If I have just have 1 or 2 to cut I do like to use the plane.
If you made a tall aux. fence you could use a standard saw blade and run the work through on edge to cut 3/4" high, then lay it flat and cut the strip out. Less sawdust as well.

Use the fence Luke
I agree, but a ripping blade will cut this much easier and beware of the strip being cut out as they tend to come shooting back at you at the end of the cut. I use strips like these to support pieces while the finish dries and cut to shorter lengths as paint stirrers. Beats trying to do it with saw dust!

I would use a router +/- router table and a rabbeting bit.
