Thread: Curley Walnut Table

    Curley Walnut Table

Here is a picture of a hall table I built for a client. The top is curly walnut veneer surrounded by maple and walnut. The legs are maple and have just a little curl.
The finish is three coats of witches brew and then waxed.
I wish I had taken the picture from the front, then grain on the apron looked nicer.

    Thanks
    Dave

Beautiful!! I am a big fan of walnut. Great contrast with the maple, and great compliment with a little curl in the legs. Very nice.

That is amazing walnut, can be a little cantankerous to work. Good job.

Did you bookmatch the top for the curly walnut? Amazing movement in it!!

However, I have to admit that I'm not crazy about the walnut apron...that is too much walnut in that piece for me. The top was plenty and the inlay very nice but I would have stopped there with the walnut.

Still a very nice, clean piece.

Interesting and very attractive blend of various grains and species with the top jumping out immediately to say "look at me first".

    Excellent work and matching...

I tend to agree with Chris regarding the apron. But, that's just my opinion. Still a sweet looking table. Nice work!

Thanks for all the comments. The top was the focal point.
And I agree about the aprons, wish I could have used some maple with a little curl in it. But when I laid it out for the client, she chose the walnut for the aprons. Give the customer what they want.

    Thanks again,
    Dave

Is the walnut band around the top inlayed, or are they separate pieces glued together?
