Hey Tim,
Hopefully there should be access least on the tail stock for a knock-out rod or punch and light tap to do it. Might see if that will work? Just a thought, good luck on that and let us know! Jude
Tim if you don't have a knock out hole can you grab your mandrel with locking pliers or channel locks, then tap on them with a dead blow hammer or wooden mallet. Hope this helps. Sometimes a piece of wood angled on top and tap with mallet.
It is hard toimagine a modern lathe without a knockout hole in the headstovl where a ten/rwelve in long 1/4 in rod can be inserted to knockout the neadstock fitting, or a tailstock that you couldn't just backout to eject the live center. Good luck!

Hi. On my Delta 1460, there is no knockout on the tailstock. I found that if you retract the arm all the way, the mandrel will be pushed out on it's own.

I am going to assume that your are talking about a pen mandrel...
I use the pen disassembly kit to remove the manderl. slide on the heavy knocker (?) and then put the locknut back on the mandrel and a few swift knocks against the nut...works like a charm without marring up the shaft...
A pic of the kit from the woodcraft site...
They've said it all. Good luck.
