First Home for Our First Grandchild

It's not going to be to long now and our first grandchild will be here.

Here are a few pictures of his first home.

The cradle is built with tiger maple and birds eye maple panels, which don't show up well in the pictures. The figure is quite suttle but after doing a bunch of sample pieces that is how my daughter in law wanted it. Finish is 4 coats of high luster tung oil. A couple of coats will finish it all up.

Just a couple of little things to do and its ready to go.

    Thanks for looking..

    Very nice.

Going to be lucky kid if gramps (pop pop) keeps building him things.

Hopefully, he will even get to build some things with you.

Purdy! And I'm glad some of the tiger stripe shows up...even subtle, it's great!

Did you use plans, or is that your own design?

I have seen many cradle designs, but yours is my favorite!

    Well done!

    Thumbs up birds and tigers...

    Hi Gary,
Now that is a nice looking cradle.
    Beautiful wood and beautiful work.
It encourages me that an oak lover can work other wood too...
maybe there is still hope for me?!?

    Congrats on your first Grandchild,
    Walt

    The plan came from furnitureplans.com
I made a few changes to it. Firstly I made the cradle 4" shorter.
To me this makes it a little more in proportion. Secondly there are end plants that are on the end top rails that were to be 3/4" and I made mine 3/8". I thought that 3/4" would look out of place.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone....

Very nice, Gary. I love tiger maple and I definitely know where you're coming from on the pictures not doing justice in some cases. I am pot luck with a camera at best. But then again.. their is more satisfaction in delivery than picture taking.

    Again.. well done

    Sarge..
