Thread: Adult Ads

    I Hardly Every Post>>>>>

But this is driving me nuts. I am mostly a lurker, you will not find very many posts by me but I am always coming here for information. For example, I am about to refinish my floors. I came here and found out that BONAKEMI is one of the best floor finishes out there. On top of that someone had already posted one of the cheapest places on the net to get it. Outstanding.

I love all the posts and what Jim said but I still think that people are missing the point and Keith would never say it because he is, from what I have seen, way too professional. I am going to say it though:

Everything on this site is free. FREE. Everybody that works here works for FREE (except for the techies (sorry techies, not sure what else to call you) as Keith pointed out) but even them (Aaron I believe) worked at one point for FREE. I believe that Aaron is the one that helped Keith start Sawmill when Badger Pond shut down. If I am not mistaken some of these recent posts are what contributed to the reason Wayne decided to shut down Badger Pond.

Call it poor planning or whatever (even though it wasn't), some ads got up that maybe should not have been but from what I have seen it was for a book. It does not matter, REMEMBER THIS SITE IS FREE AND THE PEOPLE THAT WORK HERE DO IT FOR FREE AND SOMETIMES MISTAKES ARE MADE. It was nice to bring it to their attention but lay off already. They said they are trying to take care of it. You cannot always anticipate all the problems that you will have and that does not matter, there are alway going to be mistakes, what you do to correct those mistakes is what really matters. Oh did I mention it may take a little longer to correct the problems because these poeple work for FREE and have other jobs besides volunteering at Sawmill.

Whether you choose to pay or not to pay or whatever, it does not matter BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE CHOICE. You also have the choice to not visit anymore.

Regardless. I am going to put my Kudos in for Keith and try to keep up the nice work and the wonderful site. I hope that I never have to browse this Forum on a CD like I do Badger Pond. I am the Vice President of Engineering for my company and I am responsible for every product that gets designed and released to the market. Everytime a customer complains I hear about it. Fortunately I am paid well to listen to complaints. You cannot please all of the people all of the time. Just try to do your best and things will fall into place.

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE INFORMATION THAT YOU HAVE GIVEN ME SINCE 2003 AND KEEP UP THE WONDERFUL WORK.

Lets not forget that the only way to sell your stuff is to get your adds noticed. All sites do what they can to get more hits with fewer words or less connection. Adult sites and ads are worse then most for this and they will always pop through at some point.

It is the classic arms race. You can only do so much. I have confidence that the mods will deal with it efficiently and a throughly as possible. Now that I have my cake I am going to go eat it.

    Thank you Matthew! Well said.

Keith and the team have, IMHO, made this one of the best sites on the web with a lot of hard work and love of the craft. It is not always easy to work your heart out and then listen to some of the things that are said, especially when necessity dictates we go a direction other than our desire. Anyone who has been here for any length of time at all has recognized the value system held by this set of Forums. Stuff sometimes happens outside our control but the intent should be known. So to Keith and all who labor to give us what we have...THANK YOU!! We appreciate YOU and Your Efforts!

    Thumbs up Ditto

I am very new here, but I also feel strongly identified with what Matthew said. I am sure Keith and company are doing the best they can on this issue, as they have done in the past.

I have a ton of questions, but I don't post much because I usually find the answers already posted in an older thread. This place is by far the best woodworking site I know of, and the love for the craft shows in everything Keith, his team and the moderators do.

    Thanks!

Wow! Talk about you guys getting your undies all in a wad about very little. One guy complained that there was some porn advertising on the forum. Several people started bashing the non-contributers for not giving any money. Another guy said that the porn ads weren't Keith's fault. I replied that they were in fact his responsibility because he's the one that allowed the ads in the first place. I also said that it was an honest mistake and that I might've made too. Not a huge deal but I sure don't want my 9yo boy asking who Seka is.

I thought that the SMC admin had already started to resolve the problem and then Matthew comes on here many hours after the fact and starts yelling at everyone. Then there's the, "Me too!" guys...Sheesh! It's over already. It wasn't really such a big deal that you had to get that upset half a day after Keith posted that he's taking care of the problem.

It is a mostly open forum...everyone is allowed their post...time stamps mean little. You had yours, Bruce, other folks can have theirs...no need to get your own "undies all in a wad"....
    Wood: a fickle medium....

Did you know SMC is user supported? Please help.

"In a wad" is exactly how I store my undies. If they're laid out flat, something's wrong!

Yup, that's true. But it sure did seem to be stirring up something that wasn't really a problem with the intent of causing bad feelings. My undies are doing just fine, thank you very much.

OK, I have to ask, when I go to SMC on my computer, I get the Amazon banner listing tools and toothbrushes (I bought a Sonicare last year). When I go to SMC on my daughters old computer the banner gives me womens clothes, jewelry, and underwear, stuff I don't need Can the Amazon banner be reading past cookies of your browsing history or purchases ?

    Bruce,

As Chris said, time stamps mean very little to me, especially in this. (Especially since I did not even look at the time stamp).

With that said, you may very well be correct. I may not have needed to stir this up or anything. I may have been a little overdue on this one but that post was six or so months in the making and this was just the latest in a number of posts that I have read that I thought we unduly harsh on the admin and mods.

The admin and mods are either, to proud, or modest, or professional to say it so bluntly and that is why I felt the need to say it myself.

Things like this have happened before, they will happen again. As said, mistakes happen all the time and there will be more. The entire point of my post was that when things do happen please bring it to their attention and leave it at that and let them fix it. They are providing a free service after all.

Also, I sincerely apologize if this caused and bad feelings. This was not the intention and I am sorry if you may feel that way. When things like this happen I believe that the admin and mods feelings could well be hurt too but they cannot say it.
