Thread: Hanging clamps on wall

  1. #16
Years ago I experimented with a simple strip of wood as thick as the short end of the clamp. I threw in a pivot stick for good measure.

I haven't used the pivot stick and the wall is now covered with all kinds of clamps which have never fallen off. They are easy to grab and put back.

Here is my solution. I have 2 of these and they work great. They have them for parallels and pipe clamps.

  3. Pegboard

I recently needed something now so I just tried some 10" long
rods that stick out of my pegboard. This is the pegboard that
takes the larger of the two common diameters and it is some
    kind of brown pressboard.

I have 4 40" K-body knock-offs on one of these rods and it seems fine.
I think past 6 the rod will start bending too much though. I was pretty
surprised the pegboard could handle it. And the clamps have a
hang hole already in the bar so it's a piece of cake to hang.

Then there is aluminum pegboard, which can handle a lot:

    Simple solution

This is my simple solution. Sticks out about 7.5" from the wall on 4" long blocks. 2x4s are recycled or leftover from other house projects. Solid as a rock. Pocket hole joinery. Easy to take apart if I need to make it bigger or move it.

I ended up buying the Peachtree clamp racks. They are nicely made, strong steel and cheap ($16 and it holds 12 clamps). I feel alot better about having a nice steel rack up there compared to wood holding that much weight (I live in Earth Quake country) plus I can get the clamps alot closer together. I figured if I spent this much on clamps whats another whats another $1.50 per clamp to keep them organized.

Figured I'd toss out the more space friendly option I used.

It's worked out pretty nice except I used some pretty soft borg stuff and I wish I would have gone a bit beefier. I have three layers to mine and it fits a bunch of clamps in a pretty small space. < 36" on the wall there.

My shop space is very limited. For clamps, I did the same as Jim Fox. Each space will hold 7 Bessey clamps. I use the short clamps a lot more than the long clamps so the short clamps are more accessable.

woodpecker sells a fantastic metal rack that can be easily attached to the studs of your garage and holds bessey clamps perfectly in case you're running short on time.
