Vortex! What Vortex?
I built this one: http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?FamilyID=60204
I used MDF for the carcass and tables instead of BB ply, and skipped the laminate in favor of several coats of good ole polyU. Actually makes for a pretty durable & smooth surface on MDF. I like being able to roll it outdoors and leave the the mess it makes there.
Things I woulda/shoulda changed (iow "duh" moments I wish had occurred earlier):
1) Make top shelf adjustable in case you decide to change miter saws.
2) Rout some channels for t-track and a scale on the fences.
3) If you go polyU on MDF do NOT seal it with the poly. Let it drink up a can of shellac first. Dries fast, smells less, costs less. Save the nasty poly for the finish where it actually makes a difference.
This is my version of the mitersaw station from plans in Popular Woodworking. There are two pull out shelves under the mitersaw. I have T-track in the wings to attach stop blocks to.

I built this about 10 years ago. Old saw, but still works great. The dust shield is 1/8 lexan and the dust collector starts with the saw switch.
Non folding extentions. It works pretty good as far as collecting most the dust.
There's about 2" of clearance behind the slide beam and follows the radius when mitering left or right.
