    End-O-Pond Picnic

I just saw Ken's post about the picnic in April in Indiana and thought I better get some details out.

The first Badger Pond picnic will be held on April 12th in Anderson, IN; about 30 miles NE of Indy on I-69. There is a block of 30 rooms being held at the Econolodge until April 8th. The best rate I could get is $45/night and the local number is 765-644-4422 or get the toll free number from Ken's post.

As of now there are more than 70 folks signed up with a total attendance of maybe 120-150 with families.

For campers there are a few campgrounds in the area or you can camp on the property is you don't mind primitive facilities. I am building a house there but the water facilities probably won't be complete by then.

We will do a cookout on Friday evening for the early arrivals and some kind of mid-day meal on Saturday, and of course the shop will be open all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

We are going to have a project exchange, door prizes, raffles, and maybe a fun auction. I will post more details as plans become firm.

I would like everyone to bring something for a project exchange. Something you have made in you own shop to give to someone else. It should be something fairly small that could be carried home by someone else traveling. Something simple that has your signature and a date that will be a reminder of the weekend. It could be a bowl from a turner or hand made spindle from a chair maker, a corner from hand cut dovetails, a board that is french polished or a foot from a carver. Something that could be set on a shelf or hung on the shop wall that would remind someone of the day everytime it was looked at. One of my prized possessions is a piece of sassafrass root a friend gave me many years ago. Everyonce in a while I shave a little more off of it and it fills the shop with a pleasant aroma that reminds me of the deer hunting weekend it came from. We will set up a separate table for the exchange so that everyone that brings someting will take something home.

We will be collecting items for the door prize table and if anyone wants to get their local supplier to donate something, we will put it to good use.

    Keith or Aaron,

I guess Ray just put up some more details that could go in the calendar.

Hey Jason, since you put the EOP on the calendar you will have to edit it, I can't edit your post. Ray

Hmmm...I didn't see a way for ME to edit it. I think that Keith or Aaron has to do that.

    I'll look again, though.

Ray, Seems that every Pond gathering there are a lot of turners. Can we get someone to demonstrate the Beal buffing system? I have all the stuff but no clue where to start.

That leads me to another idea, since so many people are going to show up it may be useful to have a schedule of events. My guess is that people have been volunteering to do demonstrations which could keep us pretty busy for the day. I wouldn't want to miss Jennifer turning a bowl because I was talking to Ken S. about his pens (no offense Ken).

    Hotel information

If you call the 800 number you can not get the reduced rate Ray has arranged. You must call the local number. Also the rate applys only to April 11. This is what the host told me when I made my reservation.

I would like to see the Beal system also, I'll see what I can do. I will try to set a schedule, but judging from past Pond events that is the first thing that goes out the window.

Thanks Terry, I did not know that but it makes sense. If anyone does not get the $45 rate let me know and I will have a little chat with the manager.

Ive got the Oneway buffing system Jim and I can bring that along. Can't help you on the Beall though, but they should be the same or close.

As far as schedules, if that is possible I think it would be great, but like Ray said, their hard to maintain.

Well I'll be there and I can demonstrate anything you all want me to, except pirouettes in my tutu

I was sort of thinking of hauling my Kel McNaughton coring tool out if anyone has an interest and seeing if that little Stubby mini lathe of Gary's can handle it. But, I'm up for whatever the crowd might want to see, if they even want to see me at all that is.
