    Desk Project

    Hello to all,
I don't post very often, but I would like to show off a recent project. It's a Digital Audio Work Station we built for a client who will be doing sound editing, sound design, and composing music. There is a full sized MIDI keyboard built into the front, and rack mounts under the shelf.
This was a very challenging piece for a lot of reasons, mostly all the curved edges, which were done using bent wood lamination. The desk top is pomelle bubinga veneer, and all the rest is Hondurus mahogany. The finish is Target gloss USL buffed to a semi gloss.

    Thanks for looking,

    Marc

    Marc -

Beautifully done and impeccable finish......this is terrific!

Do you have a mdf "core' between the veneers?

    Thanks

Thanks for the kind words. We're really happy with the way it turned out.

Roy, We have what is perhaps an irrational dislike of MDF for anything except jigs and paterns. The core is apple ply so it will hold the screws for the shelf risers and the base to top connection. Our client wanted an open look for the legs, so that seemed like a good solution. It worked real well, and came out very flat.

The way the keyboard is inset is very nicely done and the finish for only being a semi-gloss shines beautifully.

    Thanks

    Grady,
Getting the keyboard to fit into the desk was very important to the look of this project. We measured that thing about 100 times, and checked it twice eack time. The piece of mahogany just in front of the keyboard is hinged (piano hinge no less) so the keyboard removable. The door is held in position with the two screws that you can see in the front.
