    Wood turning Class

How can you top spending a week in a wood turning class?

If the class is instructed by Travis Stinson!

And the only way to top that is to leave with a truck load of fresh cut walnut logs!!

Just returned from a weeks class at the American Sycamore Retreat, featuring Travis as the instructor. Unfortunately for Travis there were more no shows than students. As most know Travis is an excellent turner, he is also an exceptional instructor. I learned what I came to the class for and enjoyed the week and meeting Travis.

As for the walnut, Travis told Mike (the owner) at breakfast one morning that he would like to turn some green walnut. With that Mike got up from the table and walked outside. A few minutes later we hear a chain saw running and find Mike felling a 60'+ walnut tree. Mike wanted to know if that was enough walnut for us!

For those wanting to learn how to make hollow forms, or just refine your skills you should contact Travis and arrange to take his class. It will be money well spent!

Congrats on the class and what a gloat. Boy that is some big walnut. I would dearly love to take a class with Travis as the instructor. His work is absolutely excellent in my books. Travis is a very giving person especially when asked for advice.

Travis make sure you post what you make out of that monster.

I really envy you! I would love to take a class from Travis but he doesn't seem to get that far north.

Paul, you sure know how to make a guy envious. Turning and training with Travis is on my wishlist. This class snuck past me, but I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the next one. Thanks for posting.

Paul, Congrats on the class !! Having watched Travis turn on more than one occasion I can attest to his abilities. He is the only turner I know that you can learn so much from by just watching him !!

I had a wonderful time! I kept forgetting my camera in my pocket, but did manage to grab a couple shots of Paul in action and one of his roughed pieces. Be sure to let us see this one when it's finished!
Pete, we were only 300 miles from you in Cloverdale, Indiana. I was kinda testing the waters to see how it would go and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'll be sure to let everyone know before the next one comes up. I'd love to spend a week with a shopful of Creekers!

Wow! wished I could have been there! That's a great looking HF Paul!!
You did a good job with all those contraptions getting in the way of your gouge .

  13. He can't go any farther North without hiring an interpreter...

    Congrats Paul!

Are you saying Travis has a hint of an accent? Maybe you could come with him and you could take turns.

Nice gloat and great hollow form, Paul!

As far as what you learned from Travis, don't worry... we can fix that.
