I see a really nice display case, or table in that.

Looks like that to me.
It's gotta be the most beutiful peice of Wood i have seen. but haven't seen many so...
Not certain but it looks like the top from the Bubinga Veneer coffee table David Marks made on Wood Works a month or so ago. When finished the table top looks as if a piece of velvet was laid out on top of it with wrinkles. Very pretty piece of wood what ever it is! See if you agree:

Is Douglas fur any good for anything other than framing? all the houses here are built from it. most the older ones such as ours anyway, and there are extra 2X4's in the attic.
That must be quilted shlamaca......which is rare these days.....it could be quilted bubinga if the tree grew near shlamacas
"All great work starts with love .... then it is no longer work"
Hello Tim,
Trust me on this. Save a few of them for any future repairs that may crop up.there are extra 2X4's in the attic.
Trying to match the dimensions of yesteryears 2X4's is an excersise that would tax the patience of Job.
I worked for an old growth douglas fir sawmill out here in sw washington about 6-7 yrs. ago for 10 yrs. If those 2x's are clear or CVG, yes they are worth something!!! Save them.
We also sold alot of clear fir beams to Italy and Spain for veneer. Are hottest markets were in Japan, were they sliced the beams into veneer also!
Dang, that's a purty piece of wood there!
There's one in every crowd......and it's usually me!
