Yet another Shaker end table

I wanted to post a few pics of a recent project: a shaker end table. It's a Jatoba table with the drawer made of poplar sides and spalted maple front. The table is finished with three coats of BLO (Tried & True Varnish Oil). There were too many mistakes made to list here (e.g., look for the miscut tails on the drawer front)

Well done. I like the contrasting woods. As to the miscut tails, I can't seem to find them. I suspect you are the only one who sees them.

I have a question about finishing drawers in general: I remember reading about not finishing the insides of drawers (just the outsides). Doesn't that lead to uneven moisture exchange between the two sides? (I remember reading about using shellac for odorless finishes as well; probably use that inside?)

I agree with the comment about the contrasting woods, looks mighty sharp to me. To my way of thinking, and miss cuts, just help to prove that it was infact a "hand made" piece, and makes it all that much more desirable! Nice work.

Anil, it looks great to me. I'm sure that whomever you made it for will enjoy it in their home. That's an interesting choice of wood for a Shaker piece. It worked out well.

We just use MinWax finishing paste wax on all of our drawers - inside and out - and seems to work just fine, as well as lasting a long time. The drawers in my kitchen were done with wax about 6 years ago and still look new.

The table is really pretty - I like the contrasting woods too. Can't find the messed-up dovetails. Did you turn the knob on the drawer?

I agree that the choice of wood is not really "Shaker-like" . So in that sense it's not really a Shaker end table; but the design is Shaker style and I think it's a testament to the design in that it's fairly foolproof (my tinkering with the woods didn't mess it up too much).

The contrasting woods was a last minute design change: I had a scrap piece of spalted maple and I wanted to see how that would work out as a drawer front for this table :-)
