    my first project w/pics

this is my first attempt at any real project beyond a shelf. I decided to build my son a desk-he is a Seattle Mariners/Ryan Newman fan (they both have similar color schemes which helps). I started with only a router and a set of plans. During the course of the project, I found sawmill creek, bought a table saw, router table, jointer, dados and dc.

I myself have no previous experience with wood. This was a great project to learn from. It took about a year to complete-well almost complete. I just have to make the slide outs and then I am done.

As you can see, it gets lots of use!

Thanks to all who gave advice - this is a great place for a newbie like myself.

My advice to other newbies, pick a project that will require you to purchase new (more) tools as you go - "honey, I can't finish the desk without a ...."

Pretty ambitious for your first project. It came out very nice. Congrats.

And with all of that you found SMC, and got some new tools as well.

I'd say it was a very sucessful project.

Really nice Russell! I tried that "honey I need this or that tool to finish a project............", and it worked for awhile. Then she finally caught on and said, with all the tools that you have out there, isn't there a way to do it with one of them. I gotta admit, alot of the time, she was right!!! I just wanted a dedicated this or that, but I didn't need them. When I get into my 40's, I'll start trying again and see what I can pull off. Only time will tell. Great desk Russell and thanks for sharing.
