Recently completed the bookcase my daughter requested. The plans were from Woodsmith. One of the things I liked about these plans were the bookcase is actually 5 separate components not counting the shelves. The top, bottom, two sides and back are all separate pieces. The sides attach to the top and bottom using lag bolts. The back is fastened with screws.
The sides, top surface of bottom piece, bottom surface of the top piece are ¾ oak ply. The front of the sides, the bottom and top are all solid oak. The back is ¼ oak ply. Shelves are ¾ oak ply with ¾ solid oak front trim.
The stain color is English Chestnut. There are four coats of wipe-on poly, sanded between coats.
The plans were very good and easy to follow. I was very nervous about putting the flutes in the side pieces. There are plans for a router jig included with the bookcase plans. After the flutes were made, I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
