    Bookend Weights

What have you guys used? I need to weigh some down a little, and would prefer something thin like 1/8" or 3/16" could push to a 1/4" if I needed. I am going to carve out the underside of the bookend then put a "cap" on it after its done to hide them so something that wont bother the wood over time would be good.

You could use lead shot. Lead will give you high mass so the void won't need to be so large. Spent uranium would work, too but lead is easier to get.

Rout a mortise, pour in the shot and then pour in a bit of thin epoxy to lock the lead in place and keep it from rattling when the bookend is moved.
