Stabilized wood advise

Does anyone have any words of wisdom on turning stabilized (and dyed) pen blanks? I have a request for a couple of pens from co-workers and haven’t worked with stabilized wood before. Since it is so expensive, I don’t want to make any mistakes on it. Thanks for the help!

Wayne,
I just make sure the tools are extra sharp when turning stab. blanks,,,they're a bit harder due to the resins in them but you'll enjoy
the way they polish up!

I find a sharp medium sized bowl gouge better at roughing round the blank than a spindle roughing gouge or spindle gouge. After round you'll do fine with your favorite sharp pen turning tools.

Get some EEE polish. After sanding to 600 or 800, EEE gives me better results than micromesh.

Alot of turners hate the smell of stabilized blanks, you'll get used to it especially after you see the shine you can put on this stuff.

I make alot of Bottle stoppers from Stabilized and people love them.
