    wanted: plans for plant starter

My wife would like a seed/plant starting stand. They sell in catalogs for way too much. Anybody have plans or experience making one?

I'm looking for 3-4 tiers, about 4 feet long, with fluorescent grow lights.

    Thanks,

    Ken

I can't help you with a plan, but here's a picture of one that I made when I only had a router, circular saw and a miter saw...about 1996 or so. Sorry it's so small...I don't have the original photo at this point.

Very nice looking, Jim. Did water drip onto the light fixtures from above? If so, did that cause any problems?

Also, it looks like you have knobs to adjust heights. is that correct? How does the mechanism work?

    Thanks for taking the time.

Knobs are on studs that integrate via routed slots to threaded inserts in the "Tray". A dowel in the third (middle) slot keeps things level. I had no problem with dripping, but I suppose one could if the particular fixture allowed for any openings on the top. None on the fixtures I used at the time.

Lowe's has a library of free plans on the web. There is a plant starter among them.

George. I looked at Lowes.com for it. No luck finding it. Could you please send me a link?
    Thanks,

    Ken,

I posted right after your first post with a link to the plans for one just like Jim's, complete with dimensions etc. Someone deleted it... Sheesh!

I'll try to find again and PM you to keep the cops happy.

    Ken,

    I found it...

Click on the stand pic, and it has all the details.

Hope this is something that works for you.
