    sinkhole eats house (true)

This large sinkhole consumed about half a house in Nixa, MO only a couple miles from where my son lives. News accounts said that there are sinkholes very near my sons home. I can't imagine the shock of having your house fall into a hole that suddenly appears in the ground. The owner of the house heard a sound and climbed into his bathtub thinking it might a tornado. Fortunately the half of the house that went into the 75 foot deep hole was not where he was. More fell later as a spectator happened to be present with a video camera. Scary.

    Frank,
Do they know what is causing the sink holes to happen?

Incredible. Might be wise to move inland.

Sinkholes are a natural occurance in cave country. They are just a washing away of soil into aquifers and caves by water movement. Frequently they show up on the surface as a depression and never get worse. Some open up and provide access the cave below. This one was totaly unexpected and now, I'm sure, will affect development and property values in the area. OTOH, like storm ravaged gulf regions, folks will probably just keep building.

Well, they don't complain enough...they're still here! We're due for a really good shaker...to shake out some these people that think California doesn't shake so much. Hopefully it'll convince my wife we need to move back to Colorado!
