    picture of bed

Just thought I'd show a picture of a bed I made. Messy shop in background.

In looking for shapes and lines, I copied the handle of an English cabinetmaker's screwdriver for the finials, and the curve of the legs is taken from the gentle curve of a Disston saw. ; ) Really, I'm not kidding. I do not have a gift for designing curves, and take 'em from where I can.

Great job and kudos for your innovative use of your Disston saw. Maybe they should add your use to their brochure!

    Thanks for your kind words.

The primary wood is cherry. The finish is shellac 2 or 3 coats [I think 2# cut] followed by paste wax.

    The slats are red oak.

Nice bed. It has an old time look to it. I don't know what era but the overall design looks like something from the 1900s.

    bed design

The headboard is a portion of an ellipse. It was a bit tricky figuring out how to draw one accurately to make a template.

I think I know what you mean about it looking old. I like making pieces that don't look contemporary, but don't fit a specific time and place either.

Many thanks to all for your support. When my woodturner son, Ben gets back with his digital camera [in a few days], I'll post some other stuff.

Tod, I've looked at your work, your compliment means alot to me.
