Two sides to a sweetgum log....N.E.

Encouraged by the results of my first try at n.e.'s { 'fish mouth bowl' }, I decided to be a bit more ambitious........These are from opposing sides of a sweetgum log.......Final measurements around 9 inches by 5 on one and 10 x 6 on the other one. Still a bit of hand sanding to do .........They are coated in blo..... so here are n.e. numbers two and three......thanks for looking.....doug

Wow Doug, you did move up on the NE bowl scale.. Those are some wonderful looking bowls, I love the shapes.

Did you use wax on top of BLO? That is what I use when I am finishing it on the lathe. After putting the BLO on, rub a piece of either bee's wax or carnuba wax right over the BLO and then use a paper towel and rub it in while it is spinning on the lathe. The heat from the paper towel will melt the wax and give it a real nice finish. Be careful as you get to the NE and don't press to hard.

    Again those look great.

Really nice looking bowls, Doug! Quick question: How hard is it to get BLO to that high of a gloss?
That's not a light at the end of the tunnel; It's a naked singularity.

Doug, you been holding out on us? You are a professional turner aren't you?
Man, those are beautiful. Sweetgum ends up as sweet natural edge bowls with a killer finish. Excellent!

I have done so much with so little for so long I am now qualified to do anything with nothing......

P.S. If you are interested in plans for any project that I post, just put some money in an envelope and mail it to me and I will keep it.

Thanks for the kind words......I'm just a broken down old plumber having fun turning. Seeing all the beautiful work shown on the creek keeps me very aware of what I still have to learn. BTW.....these bowls are not "finished........I still have a bit of hand sanding on them to do after I cut the tenon off.....The shine of the finish is wet blo...My back quit on me b4 I could get any further....The sweetgum started splitting and cracking while the chainsaw was still running....The blo is to slow this down till I get back to them....Sorry about the confusion.....doug
