I am looking for a source for these 'opera shell' tops for bookcases. I would also like to know the correct terminology too. Thanks.

I have seen those made in plastic and available for a song. Seems OK to me for paint grade item that will never be touched after it's painted. I can't remember the MFGR though. I think it was the company that made the interior trim for the farm house project last winter on This Old House (with Norm). Maybe called Spectis?

Company is called Spectis. See Spectis.com.

Outwater Plastics shows a bunch of those in their catalog. I think Outwater's are rigid polyurethane foam. They'll sell you the whole niche (that's what they call it), or just the shell cap (again, their name). You can try finding the parts on Outwater's web site, www.outwater.com, but its a bad site that's difficult to navigate. If that doesn't work, call them 800.835.4400.
Thanks Ben, I searched this site and found art niches but not the shell caps. Its getting late and I'll continue tomorrow.

Thanks Jamie, I often forget about Outwater. I found the art niches and the frames, but not the shell caps. I have someone call there tomorrow and ask.
