Found they were taking down a Sugar Maple on Saturday and grabbed a couple
of pieces. The tree was planted when the house was built in 1938. A couple
Of years ago they put in a new septic system and the backhoe took out the
Tree's root system.
This piece is currently 6x8x3 but I can square it up a bit on the bandsaw.
(3 inches thick on one side, 3 1/2 on the other and 4 1/2 in the middle)
The lighter colored wood seems just as hard as the darker wood. I couldn't
Push my thumbnail or a butter knife into it.
