Has anyone put a byrd spiral cutting head on a G0490?

How do you like it? was it worth it and did the price end up in the 450 range?

    Thanks,

    Eddie

I emailed Byrd about the G0490 Shelix cutterhead a couple months ago. They told my they sent a Shelix cutterhead to Grizzly for them to test and are waiting to hear back. So I would say it is not yet available for the G0490.

I'm about to order a G0490 and I wanted to know if they in fact offered one. So I called Grizzly today and confirmed that they do offer a Shelix (Byrd) head for the G0490. I was interrupted (imagine that at work...) so I didn't get a chance to confirm price or availability though.

If it's not too expensive, I'll be ordering one with my G0490. I'll try and let eveyone here know how well it works, along with pricing too.

I just got the new Grizzly summer sale catalog and it has the Byrd cutterheads in it. The 8" listed does not include the 490 just the 500, 586 and the 1018. The 8" cutterhead is $395 Dave

    Dave,

You have to call them and order it. It's not available online or in the catalog yet. Tomorrow when I get back to the office I'll post Grizzly's part number.

[Edit] Grizzly P/N is H8803 for those interested.

    Rob,

That doesn't surprise me at all. Seems everything I want to order from them is 4- weeks out.

By any chance, did you ask them how much it costs? I haven't had the time to call them again today...

    Byrd head

It is the same head that fits the DJ20 It's cost is $395. Sunhill and Wilkey also sell them and I think it is at the same price.
If you buy it direct from Byrd it will cost you a bit more. Go figure.

Guys ... here is the email I got from Grizzly ... I do have to say Grizzly told me 4-6 weeks on my G0490 but to my surprise it really only took 3 DAYS!

We appreciate your interest in our products. The only Shelix cutterhead that we sell that will fit on the G0490 is the H8803. The H8803 is $395.00 plus shipping and handling. The H8803 is currently on backorder approximately 4-6 weeks. At this time, we have not received confirmation from our manufacturer as to when the item will arrive in our warehouse. Once the item is received, we do fill backorders first. You will not be charged for your item until it has been shipped.

I think backorder might be Byrds business model . In other words, no matter who you order from (including Byrd directly), you might just find the same wait. I got mine (for an older Grizzly) through another vendor. The wait was about a month and the cutterhead wound up shipping directly from Byrd.
