Fantastic work Steve. And in plenty of time.
How about the number 4 somewhere in gold? And isn't that green verrrrry similar to old JD green? Could be a JD in gold somewhere also.

Great attitude!!! Things like this were meant to be used. The beauty is, you have all these great pictures to look back on. Excellent job Steve. You should be proud.Originally Posted by Steve Ash

Stu, funny you mention this. My dad just called me less than 15 minutes ago to say that he had been over yesterday to see my progress and I was gone. I asked him what he thought....he said "it's what I've come to expect from you"....coming from my dad it is a huge compliment.Originally Posted by Stu Ablett in Tokyo Japan

I have done so much with so little for so long I am now qualified to do anything with nothing......
P.S. If you are interested in plans for any project that I post, just put some money in an envelope and mail it to me and I will keep it.
I'd almost consider spinning on a piece of iron like that
Well done.

I think the lathe looks great. I'm glad you didn't go with Plum Crazy.

Gerat job, Steve. That's got to the sweetest lathe resto that I've seen. It's been too many years to remember for sure, but the Oliver looks a lot like the ones we had in high school wood shop. (The speed control dial nudged my memories.) Glad to see this one's got a brand new life ahead of it. Enjoy getting it dirty.

How old is the big GREEN one...I met a new friend the other day in his 50+ and he said in high school they had Oliver equipment. I just bought a very old Delta Rockwell Sander/Grinder from a school online auction (weights the same as a baby elephand). Belt sander size is 4 by 52, any idea where I could find a belt?

Steve I can't imagine how I missed this before, I think I hear Tim Taylor sounds the gutteral grunts and growls signifying total approval. The only thing I can imagine that would improve on what you have already done is seeing your sweet machine amidst a HUGE pile of turnings .

Joe, from what the guy at Oliver told me when I gave him the serial # it is a 1951-52. Apparently there were a bunch of Oliver lathes and other equiptment in high school woodworking shops back then.Originally Posted by Joe Pendleton
