    Delaware Points of Interest

I am going to the Crafts Festival at Winterthur over the Labor Day weekend. If you know of any specific points of interest not to miss in and around Delaware, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    TJ

Not really Delaware but not that far away. Try Longwood Gardens http://www.longwoodgardens.org/ It is in Kennett Square, PA It's not WW related but it is a great place to visit.

And while you're in that neighborhood, you MUST stop at Hearne Hardwoods in Oxford just west of Longwood Gardens. A real "candy store" for anyone interested in wood. Trust me...I drive and hour and a half to buy material from them when I need something "non-locally-produced"!

The most expensive tool is the one you buy "cheaply" and often...

    Winterthur

itself is pretty cool. Whichever Dupont it was bought whole houses or entire staircases & had them shipped to the house & reinstalled in the mansion. I live 15 minutes from Longwood Gardens & believe it or not - I've never been there - I think they are running fireworks along with the fountain show for the next few weeks - I've heard that it's a great place to visit. - Hearnes is definately on the short list, like Jim says.
If you're hungry & don't mind dropping an arm & both legs try to get a reservation at the Dilworthtown Inn.

If you are staying over & don't have reservations yet - there is a pretty nice little B&B between Winterthur & Longwood - right down the road from Longwood actually. I forget the name but LOML & I stayed there about a year ago for a getaway - went to Winterthur then also. If you're interested drop me a note & I'll find it for you.

The Wilmington river front is pretty cool & You might catch a blue rocks baseball game. much cooler than the big leagues - you can get a haircut while watching the game :-)

If you like Wyeth paintings - the Brandywine River Museum is in PA - right up the road from Longwood gardens -the Wyeth's homes are right up the road from the museum. There's also the Brandywine battlefield right there - but it's basically a field if there is nothing going on.
    God Bless America!
