Thread: Table Saw Motor Problem?

    Question Table Saw Motor Problem?

I hope someone can help. My Powermatic 66 is about 20 years old and has a 3 hp 220 v Leeson motor. This week I've had a severe power problem. I can easily bog the saw, and stop it with no problem if I'm not careful. The motor also is slow to get up to speed if that makes sense. HELP! I'm not sure what to do.

    Thanks - John

    Motor problems

    John,

Could be one or more of several things. Bad start capacitor, bad or dirty start switch, hung up governor, bad winding. The capacitor is usually the easiest to get to and fairly inexpensive to replace. The start switch and governor are going to be behind an end bell, usually the back one, of the motor.

One other thing, check the voltage at your receptacle and at the starter. You could have a wire in two somewhere and you have a low voltage problem.

    Good luck,
    Bob
