    You beat me to it. I recall seeing that some time back and thinking the picket cutter was awesome.

    Edit: it was a different show about Blue Ox. He was working with “at risk” kids as I recall. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

    That's cool but a chipbreaker makes the shaving curl, or 'break' as it comes off the blade.

    This is more like a bevel up plane in principle.

    In the case of this equipment it keeps the chip from breaking off of the end of the picket before it is fully cut. Maybe it should be called a non-chip breaker.

    That is a cool contraption. I notice that he's using straight grained, clear redwood or western red cedar. It's not super prone to chip out when taking long grain cuts. I do wonder if this works dry, or if you'd have to use wet/green wood.

    I also have a feeling that you'd kill yourself and the cutter if you used common pressure treated southern yellow pine, as it's pretty knotty.
