    Removing the Honda H

I need to remove the chrome license plate light bar and camera bracket from the rear lift gate of my 2012 Honda Pilot. I have everything loose except for one fastener that is behind the Honda "H" badge.

Does anyone know how to remove the H without breaking it. A new one costs $72 that I would prefer not to spend.

Thanks Ken, That video shows all the plastic clips being easy to get to. I my Pilot there is one clip that is buried down inside a restricted access space. Here's a photo:

If you look closely, one of the little grippers that hold the clip in place is on top. There is another one directly below that one and no way to get your fingers to it.

I did make an L shaped tool out of a stiff coat hanger with a kink in it that I was able to place under that lower tab and pull up while simultaneously pressing down on the visible clip with a screw driver. I was able to disengage that center clip without destroying it.

Now all I have to do is order the new camera and harness and wait for it to arrive.

The little fingers on some of those clips compress when they are installed. I've had luck using a small socket to compress them so they can be pushed out of the hole they came through when installed.

It may need a flat piece of metal with a hole drilled though of the right size.

Mason's line or brick layer's line can also be used to cut PVC pipe. Use a piece about 2' long with a couple of sticks for handles at the end then drag it back and forth over the pipe quickly and the friction will bring it through the pipe. Don't stop when doing this or the line will weld to the pipe.

These look like nail pullers to me. I had to pull the interior panel on my wife's escape rear hatch. It was supposed to have four screws and eight clips holding it in place. It had four screws and three clips. I got extra clips at the wrecking yard. Most were missing a similar number of clips.

An Update. I was able to remove all the trim panels from the lift gate on our Pilot. Only one retainer pin broke and I was able to repair it. My new camera harness arrived today. I unplugged the bad one and tried out the new one before digging deeper to make sure it would work. The new camera worked just fine. After learning how to unlock the center plastic retaining pin, the license plate light assembly/ trim piece came off easily. The Honda H badge is held on by two small Philips head screws from the inside of the plastic trim piece, so there is no way to remove it without breakage unless you remove the two screws. The screws holding the old camera mounting bracket were badly rusted. They were also Philips head screws. I was able to cut a slot in both with a 1" dia cutoff wheel for a Dremel tool. I chucked it up in my brushless drill and cut the slots. One came out that way. I applied some Tr-Flo oil to the remaining screw then heated it with a soldering iron. By wiggling the bracket back and forth the second screw came out. The new screws holding the camera bracket are stainless, though I doubt I will ever have to replace the camera.

Now I can see the hitch and trailer tongue when hooking up to our boat.
