Tip O' the day from the Village Idiot

Been a while but this is a good one. Not mine, got it from Home Handyman Magazine.

Store that tangle of ratchet straps neatly by simply cutting the top off a plastic water bottle, roll up the strap and insert.

Much better than my former way of rolling it up and using masking tape or rubber bands. Easy to store also.

Another method that works well is to use the cheap collapsible can coolers that are often given away as promotions.

I have too many different sizes. I use reusable zip ties. Wrap in tight coils with the hook in the middle and zip tie. There is a good sized Sterilite bin in the tool box on the truck full of them. Unless in the near coils it’s impossible to get the ones I need out. 3” x 27’ for hauling loads of round bales take up a lot of room.

I use cheap dog collars to hold hoses and cables in coils. They are adjustable and reusable, and easy to latch and release.

I occasionally use discarded straps from bicycle toe clips. Right now the small ratchet straps are all dumped into a DeWalt bag like a big pile of spaghetti. Shame on me. I should quit with the computer and go get organized.

Now I see they've come out with self storing ratchet straps that look like they might be good. I'm going to get a pair to try them out.

    Well, duh, everyone knows that.
You stick them between your toes first, then you light them.

And you've still got all your toes?
