Since one end looked the best, I started there,
May Project, stile layout, start here.jpg
Just hold them square...use one of the 2" wide rails...mark where the tenon meets the groove...square a line across...
    May Project, Stile layout, lines.jpg
then, mark for the raised panel....then a rail..and continue down to the bottom..
May Project, Stile layout, need trimmed.jpg
End with another 2" wide rail...add 3" below that for a Foot...after that?
May Project, Stile layout, need trimmed.jpg
Is to be cut off as scrap...a pattern for the foot?
May Project, Stile layout, foot pattern.jpg
    Which can wait a bit...

    Stay tuned..

    During the Lay out..
May Project, Stile layout, full panel.jpg
Decided to see what one side of the chest will look like...8 raised panels...to match the 8 drawers this will have..2" wide rail at the top, and other at the bottom..

had a few panels that will need fine tuned for fit & finish..

Can now set all parts aside, except for..
    May Project, Stiles, end clamped.jpg
One Stile...bottom end is in the leg vise...middle rests on a stock rest..
    May Project, Stiles, stock rest.jpg
Had to reach across the bench with a clamp...to hold the far end...had to also allow for the Stanley No.45's fence to go by..
May Project, Stiles, clearance for the fence.jpg
And keep the Plane Lube handy..
    May Project, Stiles, Plane Lube.jpg
Just a plain old candle...after the first 3 passes, I rub a bit of wax into the Groove-to-be...

I guess I am ready to plough some grooves?
    Stay tuned..

    Making Crispy Ash Noodles..yum..
    May Project, Stiles, noodle maker.jpg
about every 3 pass, rub a bit of wax along the groove...tight squeeze..
    May Project, Stile layout, defect.jpg
Had to make sure I was going the right direction, and NOT tear this spot up..
    May Project, Stiles, depth checker.jpg
Used one of the panels to check the depth...had to raise the depth stop twice...then the rebate fit all the way down into the groove...

Got 2 Stiles done..was running low on "Get-up-and-go" stopped and laid out the Mortises I need to chop..
    May Project, Stiles, needs chopped.jpg
Will start on those once the other 2 stiles have their grooves done..
Will need that Narex 8mm Mortise Chisel for the Mortises...and the Jig to hold the Stiles while I chop the Mortises out..
Been a very busy 3 days...
    Scrap Report, getting full.jpg
    Getting filled up...
    Scrap Report, 2 day's worth.jpg
Needs picked up. Currently, we are having a Thunderstorm going through...Fire Pit will have to wait a day..
    Stay tuned..

    Fire Pit...
    Fire Pit Sunday, full load.jpg

First 2 stiles have their grooves done...#3?

There were issues..served me right for working on a Monday..

First..the cutter in the Stanley 45 was acting up...got to looking at it a bit better...instead of straight, it was shaped like..) that. could either center the bevel in the plane, OR have the depth adjuster pin IN the groove of the cutter...just NOT at the same time...replaced the #14 cutter with a better one..and centered the cutter on the stile's edge..
    May Proj., Getting busy.jpg

At one end of Stile #3..there was a split...and ploughing a groove did not help matters...
    May Proj., Split Repair.jpg
Almost a foot long...finished the rest of the groove, then a repair was made..
    May Proj., LONG Split.jpg
Then set #3 over with the first 2 stiles...
    May Proj., waiting their turn.jpg
so I could add the groove to #4 Stile...
May Proj., Stile #4 done grooved.jpg
2 stiles done...made a mess on the floor, again..
    May Proj., today's noodle bowl.jpg
    Stay tuned..

    Had a profile to bandsaw..
    May Proj., ready to bandsaw.jpg
    So...
    May Proj., foot print.jpg
We have a foot for the case to stand on.

Cleared off the top of the bench a bit...and set up a Mortise Jig..
    May Proj., Mortise Jig parts.jpg
Attaches to the bench top, right over the top of a leg...no bounces...Visegrips to clamp a part into the Jig

    May Proj., clamped and ready.jpg
And, I am able to do 2 mortises, before I need to move the Stile..

    Main chisel used..

    May Proj., Mortise Chisel used.jpg
Just a "Cheapy" same with the mallet...Wall E World "Hyper Tough"...

had a few skinnier chisels, to LIFT the chips up and out of the mortises..

    May Proj., tool selections.jpg
First Mortise was for the bottom wide rail...dry fit..

    May Proj., 1st dry fit.jpg
    Rail has a haunched tenon.

    May Proj., Haunched Tenon.jpg
Short section to fill the groove, long section for the mortise...

    Stay tuned..

Narrow rails used a simpler mortise..
    May Project, Stiles, needs chopped.jpg

Have the top and bottom wide rails and 7 narrow rails..

Got about halfway along the Stile,,rotated the stile, and worked on the last mortises...had just the top mortise to do..
    May Proj., Last mortise.jpg
    Have to avoid any breakout..
    May Proj., can't chop there.jpg
    Dry fits?
    May Proj., last test fit.jpg
Top rail, raised Panel, and a narrow rail...will need to fine tune the rebates on the raised panels..some are a tad too FAT.

    Stay tuned..

Will try to reload the latest 2 entries...Have sent a LOT of Emails to the Admin. here..NOTHING has been done...NADA..

    Maybe later today?
    May Proj., Tuesday, tomorrow's task.jpg
Move things around, and chop the 9 mortises in Stile #3...to match Stile #4's 9...and prep things for a glue up?

Then, while Side #1 sits in the clamps for a few days....I can repeat for the other side of the case...

Was going so good, then the Site FAILED...so, NOW I have to go back and RELOAD ONE Photo?

Hauled a stack of supplies to the shop, tonight....decided to fix the two wide rails...then went ahead on chopped the 9 mortises in the matching stile...then brought up the clothes from the Clothes Dryer...as I used the hamper just like a Walker on the stairs...need to get the AC Unit back on...and finish my Ice Cold Tonic & Gin...

Morning started out by picking up, delivering and assembling these 2 items..
    Furniture, Recliner, rocker chair.jpg

Been a very busy day. The recliner and couch are for the Boss, when she gets released from the Assisted Care Center she is currently at...in about a week or so..

Plan last night, was to haul a stack of supplies to the shop, and bring a hamper of dried clothes back upstairs...

Plan got changed a bit..set all these aside..
May Proj., Weds night, needs work.jpg
Set up the #3Stile in the Mortise Jig..

May Proj., Weds night, mortises done.jpg
And attempt a dry fit of the Frame..
May Proj., Weds night, Frame Dry fit.jpg
Then set this aside, and prep the rails and panels later today.....and then, MAYBE...I MIGHT try a glue-up?

    Stay tuned..

    May Proj., Thurs., The Before.jpg
Saw marks, burnt spots, ridges. and rough stuff..to
    May Proj., Thurs., The After.jpg
Ready to sand to 180 grit...a Stanley No. 80 seemed to work the best
    had one interesting panel, though..
    May Proj., Thurs., interesting corner.jpg
Be fun to see where it ends up....worked on all 8 panels..then..
    Stay tuned..

Rails needed to look spiffy, of course..all 9 of them..first task was deciding which face looked the best..
    May Proj., Thurs., INSIDE.jpg
And which didn't quite make the grade...flipped this one over..
    May Proj., Thurs., flatwork tool.jpg
And ran the #80 until the rails were smooth...some were close enough, that all I did was just sand them to 180 grit..

    Then..the "FUN" could begin...
    Stay tuned..
